The bridge remains open to cyclists and pedestrians.
IN OTHER NEWS:
In a online statement Federation Council said the bridge was closed by Victoria Police for operational reasons and council would lobby to have it reopened.
"We do understand the impact this will have on the community and are doing all we can to lobby for it to remain open," it said.
"The decision was not one over which council has control."
