It was a different Christmas this year for Victoria Police as they greeted residents on border checkpoints.

Despite the unusual circumstances, there was still plenty of cheer to be seen with officers receiving gifts from those crossing between the two states.
Chocolate, mince pies and cherries were just some of the things police at the Bonegilla Road checkpoint received.
Police academy sergeant Dave Hyde, affectionately known as 'have a chat,' thanked Border residents for their generosity.
"They've welcomed us with open arms and put their hands in their pockets to try and feed us to make this a little bit easier," he said.
IN OTHER NEWS:
At the Lincoln Causeway checkpoint, senior constable Timothy Howell from the Dandenong police station was spending Christmas away from his family.
"I left two daughters at home so we did a skype phone call this morning to open presents," he said.
Instead he was spending the special day with his "blue family."
