Baranduda's Jaeden O'Connell hits match-winning boundary against Power

The number 10 batsman struck a boundary with only four balls left as the outsiders posted a shock two-wicket win over the undefeated competition leaders.

The Rangers needed two runs from Daniel Saville's third over.

"I couldn't believe it, I thought, 'just get the tie (first) please, get a couple of singles, but he went for the glory and hit a boundary for the winning shot, it was awesome," team-mate Andrew Hird said.

Quite remarkably, O'Connell found himself in the same situation when the teams met in round five on November 14.

Mt Beauty had posted 151 and Baranduda looked shot at 9-118.

O'Connell was again batting with Zach Leach and the pair had combined superbly to carry the score to 150, needing just two runs for victory.

The number 11 batsman had peeled off 21 from just 17 balls, but was dismissed agonisingly short.

It can be intimidating to find yourself in the same position, particularly when it didn't work out last time, but O'Connell calmly held his nerve.

Earlier on, that result looked unlikely after the visitors slipped to 6-87, needing another 81 runs.

Hird (16) shared a 30-run stand with No.8 Mitch Ryan (35), while the latter also combined for 44 runs with Leach (17 not out).

"Credit should go to Mitch as he carried us to within 10 runs to win," Hird said.

Leach was the Rangers' only multiple wicket-taker with 2-41 as Mt Beauty scored 7-167.

Saville top-scored with a patient 41, while Will Betheras chipped in with 34.

Meanwhile, Bethanga also scored an upset over Barnawartha-Chiltern.

Chris Hartshorn was sensational with 93 not out for the Miners, while Bethanga's Brodie Sirl captured 3-24.

Former provincial player Luke Rafferty stuck 80 from 99 balls before Tom Henderson hit a boundary from the only delivery he faced in the final over.

Yackandandah skittled contenders Kiewa for 129.

Club stalwart Mick Walker took 4-10, while Mitch Maginness posted 4-19.

Walker also played a crucial role in hitting a quickfire 29, while opener Russell Odewahn also made 29.

Josh Bartel kept his team in the match with 3-24, but the visitors won by four wickets.

And Dederang defeated Eskdale by 21 runs.
