COVID safe packs have been provided to small communities around Wangaratta to ensure their people can still gather for events on Australia Day.
Carboor, Glenrowan, Hamilton Park, Moyhu and Whorouly have all chosen to hold small community gatherings.
Each committee will receive a package of hygiene equipment to ensure their events comply with COVID-19 regulations.
The packs, which include masks, hand sanitiser and marshall vests, were provided by the National Australia Day Council after Wangaratta Council applied for a grant.
Wangaratta Council has so far announced Allison Winters, Helen Senior, Graham Colson, Annette McKenzie, Ian Gambold, Peter Nolan, Tim Griffith, Sophie Freischmidt and Doreen Holmes as some of the 10 nominees for its citizen of the year award.
The winner to be announced on Tuesday at an Australia Day event attended by Governor-General David Hurley.
