Member for Albury Justin Clancy said the NSW government was investing $2 million in the upgrade, about 200 metres south of the Read Street intersection to Jude Street.
Serious injuries were recorded in at least two crashes along the stretch in 2015 and 2019, according to crash statistics.
"This work will replace a section of road with a new, stronger surface, reducing ongoing maintenance costs and preventing further deterioration," Mr Clancy said.
"The work which will provide up to 35 jobs for local contractors and suppliers will start on Monday 1 February."
Work will be done from 7am to 6pm on weekdays and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays, weather permitting.
To minimise disruption to road users, some night work is planned from Tuesday 16 to Thursday 18 February on the section of road from Hovell Street to Sturt Street.
