It was the 150th anniversary of the iconic meeting for the high country club.
The Waters family has a rich history with the Towong feature after Waters' father, Ron, trained the third placegetter in the centenary cup in 1971.
Waters is also a former president of the club.
Sizzleonthebeach was partnered by jockey Richard Bensley who notched an all-the-way victory in the $40,000 feature.
Waters said it was a huge thrill to finally add his name to the honour roll after making the annual trek to Towong for more than three decades.
"I've been trying to win the cup for more than 30-years," Waters said.
"I used to be the president of the club.
"The family has been associated with the club since its inaugural meeting.
"It only dawned on me on Saturday that dad ran third in the cup 50-years ago with Timor Light in 1971.
"Timor Light was a dual winner of the cup in 1968-69 and I used to ride all his trackwork.
"As a trainer I think I have been placed in the cup on eight occasions so it's nice to finally get that trophy."

Sizzleonthebeach has been a consistent performer for the stable, winning seven of 30 career starts.
"I always target the race if I have a suitable runner," he said.
"The plan was to shoot for an all-the-way victory. Wyangle looked to have him cold with 100m to go but the turbos kicked in thankfully."
