Big Bulldog McKye Turner to miss season with serious knee injury

In a similar training incident to young Bulldog Elijah Hollands 12 months ago, Turner was taking a mark without any pressure when his knee collapsed.

Turner, who was entering his 10^th season with the Ovens and Murray club, said it was hugely disappointing after he missed a large chunk of 2019 due to quad problems.

"It's frustrating but it is what it is I guess," the 26-year-old said.

"I'm glad no-one else was near me or I didn't get tangled up with anyone because I wouldn't want them feeling bad about it.

"I was just going for a mark, landed and hyper-extended it.

"I'll find out more this week but it looks like 18 months with all the ligaments, bone damage and everything."

The injury to the popular Bulldog has taken some of the gloss off an exciting pre-season at John Flower Oval with new coach Jordan Taylor bringing a handful of key recruits to the club.

Turner played down the impact his injury would have on the team, saying the Bulldogs were well-placed to improve.

"We look like having good team," he said.

"They will be right."

Wodonga recruit Cody Szust was one of the stand-outs in the intra-club match with the Bulldog midfielder showing plenty of flair around the packs.
