A North East man who allegedly violently raped his partner after she threatened to leave him will be sentenced next week.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the victim, appeared in custody in the County Court on Monday charged with one count of rape and one count of detention for a sexual purpose.
The court heard the man has been in custody for 606 days over the 2019 offences which allegedly took place while three children were asleep in the home.
The prosecution summary, which was read aloud during the sentencing hearing in front of Judge Scott Johns, said the woman's nine-year-old daughter walked in to the living room after hearing her mother scream.
The court heard the girl had been holding her pillow over her head trying not to hear the alleged assault.
The pair had been in a relationship since the man was 15.
He was 23 at the time of the offence and will likely spend his 25th birthday behind bars next month.

It was July 13, 2019 when the woman confronted the man for installing the dating app Tinder on his phone.
The court heard the pair argued before the man left the house and allegedly drove to the Tallangatta lookout where he threatened to take his own life.
After being talked down by the victim's friend, the man returned home before the alleged assault took place.
The court heard the man physically restrained the woman, saying "you are mine, I do what I f****** want", before sexually penetrating her.
The man held her from behind and headbutted her, before the woman submitted.
The court heard the woman continually told the man "no", "get off" and "stop".
On July 17, the woman decided she was going to leave the man and waited until the children were asleep before having the conversation with her then partner.
This is when the man asked the woman for sex "one last time". She refused and tried to get her car keys, but the man physically stopped her.
The court heard the man then held up a stick vacuum "like a baseball bat" and threatened the woman.
The woman continued to struggle to get away. The woman's three children, two of whom the man is the father to, were asleep in the home at the time.
"If you have sex with me you will never hear from me again", the man allegedly said to the woman. She refused.
But the man then restrained the woman and penetrated her violently. He became angry as she tried to get him off her and allegedly punched and slapped the victim.
The victim managed to message a friend after the alleged rape who called police.
The man will face sentence on March 25.
