Murray River Police District Crime Manager Detective Chief Inspector Mick Stoltenberg has slammed the two attackers who left an 18-year-old man "frightened" and "unsafe" in his own neighbourhood.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Let's be realistic, he was innocently walking down the street in Lavington when he was approached by two males believed to be unknown to him," he said.
"They tried to get his money, they tried to get his phone, like the cowards that they obviously are, they have decided to assault him.
"Thankfully he has been able to get away and the main this is that he hasn't suffered any serious injuries.
"But we don't want people to live in fear that they can't go out and walk down the street.
"We are dealing with the minority within the community that do these types of things.
"We want to stamp it out we don't need that in our area."
About 8.20pm on Wednesday, the man was walking along Douglas Road, Lavington, when he was approached by two unknown men.
Police have been told the men punched the man in the face, before demanding cash and attempting to grab his mobile phone from his pocket.
The man continued to be kicked and threatened, before the two pair fled on foot, empty-handed, towards Kemp Street.
"The man sustained soreness to his jaw and leg, and was assessed by NSW Ambulance paramedics. He did not require further medical treatment," a police statement said.
Police were notified and officers from Murray River Police District commenced inquiries.
The unknown men are only described as wearing dark hooded jumpers.
Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is urged to contact Albury Police Station or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
