Improvements to Wangaratta's railway precinct will help attract visitors to the city, according to Member for Northern Victoria Jaclyn Symes.

Ms Symes on Friday looked over progress of the $8.4 million enhancement project, which includes streetscape upgrades in Cusack, Docker and Norton streets, pedestrian crossings and public art installations.
"What you've managed to do is phenomenal," she said.
"We know people are out and about in country Victoria, we want them here ... and what better way, to get off the train and have such a welcoming sight."

The Victorian Attorney General congratulated Wangaratta Council and noted future eateries were planned.
"So not only is this a great, beautiful aesthetic project, it's really going to bring in economic stimulus," she said.
The project is due for completion at the end of March.
