EARLIER: Fresh clues have linked a missing Yarrawonga man to an electric bike and trailer in Wangaratta.
Cobram police have renewed their appeal for information into the disappearance of Peter John McLean, 65, last seen on his motorbike leaving Yarrawonga on March 12.
"As part of the investigation, police have detected Peter riding an electric bike towing a trailer on Greta Road, Wangaratta on Friday March 12 at 4.56pm."
Officers now believe Mr McLean was carrying supplies and possibly preparing to travel a long distance.
A CCTV image released by police showed a person believed to be the missing man travelling on the electric bike, which had a distinctive yellow flag and yellow trailer.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Whilst police are keeping an open mind about the whereabouts of Peter and the bike and trailer, these developments have led police to believe he may have travelled in the Alpine region and moving into NSW," police said.
Investigators asked residents and people who use camping grounds, football grounds and other public spaces such as rivers and free roadside camps to look out for Mr McLean, "who may be sleeping rough and equipped to camp off the grid".
"Police and Peter's family are concerned about his safety as this behaviour is unusual and out of character," police said.
He is described as 183 centimetres tall, average build, balding grey hair with a beard and moustache.
Anyone who sees Mr McLean or a person matching his description travelling on an electric bike with a trailer should contact triple zero and anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers.
