Resorts across the Victorian Alps will merge next year into a single statutory entity, Alpine Resorts Victoria.
Falls Creek, Mt Hotham, Mt Buller, Mt Stirling, Lake Mountain and Mt Baw Baw alpine resorts will be governed by the new entity from July 2022.
Mount Hotham Alpine Resort Management board chair, Maxine Morand welcomed the government's formation of the new entity.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"The past 12 months have been really challenging for the Alpine industry with summer bushfires and the impact of COVID-19 and associated visitor restrictions on the alpine resorts," she said.
"It was apparent that the governance issues faced by the resorts required a common and consistent approach and resort staff worked very well together in responding to the challenges."
Existing leases will be transferred to the new body and the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning will take on functions of the former Alpine Resorts Coordinating Council.
The change followed consultation with industry stakeholders.
A stakeholder reference group will also be established to ensure key interests will have input in the transition to the new body. Traditional Owners will have a voice on the board of Alpine Resorts Victoria when it is established.
