
UPDATE: Two truckie brothers will remain behind bars until possibly July after they were allegedly caught with ice and cocaine during a routine truck stop on the Hume Highway.
Corey Lee O'Brien, 40, and Michael O'Brien, 46, appeared in Wangaratta Magistrates Court via videolink from custody on Wednesday afternoon after being arrested on Monday night.
The pair from Numurkah, were charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methylamphetamine and trafficking a commercial quantity of cocaine.
The pair will return to court for a committal hearing on July 1, but both defence lawyers indicated a bail application would be brought before the court earlier than that.
Wangaratta Highway Patrol officers intercepted the pair's truck at around 6.30pm on Monday night near Wangaratta.
The driver allegedly tested positive after undertaking a roadside drug test.
"A subsequent search of the truck uncovered a large amount of what is believed to be illicit drugs, which will now undergo forensic testing," police said in a statement.
The court didn't indicate which man was the driver of the truck.
The matter will return to the same court on July 1.
EARLIER: A routine traffic stop on the Hume Highway near Wangaratta led to the discovery of illegal drugs.
Wangaratta Highway Patrol officers have charged two men with serious drug offences following the incident just before 6.30pm on Monday.
A truck was intercepted and the driver, a 40-year-old Numurkah man, allegedly tested positive after undertaking a roadside drug test.
"A subsequent search of the truck uncovered a large amount of what is believed to be illicit drugs, which will now undergo forensic testing," police said in a statement.
The driver and his passenger, a 46-year-old man also from Numurkah, have been charged with trafficking a commercial quantity of methyl amphetamine and trafficking a commercial quantity of cocaine.
They have both been remanded in custody to appear at Wangaratta Magistrates' Court on Wednesday.
