A P-plater caught driving 152km/h on the Hume Freeway near Barnawartha had his car impounded.
Wodonga Highway Patrol officers detected the green Ford sedan travelling north on the freeway at 7.15pm Sunday.
Members of the public had earlier alerted police to a car being driven dangerously on the Hume Freeway.
The driver, a P1 licence holder from Springdale Heights aged 17 years, will be summonsed to appear at court on a date to be fixed.
"The Wodonga Highway Patrol would like to take this opportunity to remind motorists, particularly in the lead-up to the Easter long weekend, that we are always around to keep people safe, and that there is no excuse for speeding," police said on Facebook.
