The story of local school teacher and Albury Tigers star James Simpson, who enlisted early at the outbreak of WWI and earned a Military Cross for gallantry for his efforts at Gallipoli, has been brought to life by author Patrick Mangan.
The book, Brave Lover James Simpson, was launched to coincide with the opening of an exhibition in his honour at the Albury LibraryMuseum, from March 26 to July 11.
James Simpson - A Life of Service showcases the distinguished war hero through photographs, objects and other precious family heirlooms, including a collection of souvenir spoons sent to his wife, Grace, while he was serving overseas.
Simpson, a natural-born leader, was a respected teacher at Albury Grammar School (now Scots School) before duty called him to serve and ultimately die for his country; a boarding house and house team at the school is named after him.
