A metal horse sculpture in the rural township will now be known as Rusty after about 160 name choices, many of them double-ups, were entered in a fundraising competition.
The winning name was drawn out of a hat.
Favourable weather saw the memorial plaque to Mr Hanrahan unveiled at its permanent site by his wife Janet and daughter Rachel.
Mr Hanrahan died last year aged 62 after a long battle with cancer.
A dedicated volunteer worker, his memorial plaque includes his motto - Coming together as a community can make things happen.
One of the organisers Garry Collins said up to 200 people attended the unveiling and a barbecue held at Daysdale Football Ground.
"We were very pleased with the way the day turned out," he said.
