Finley president Ashley Haynes said a night game against Deniliquin became an exercise in snake catching.
"It happened in the fourths' game on Good Friday - everything was going as per normal and we're assuming he's popped up out of the sprinkler hole," he said.
"We had to stop the game.
"The umpire tried to take action with the football and encourage him to move but he wasn't having it."
Mr Haynes said it took a team effort to move the snake on.
"The only person who was really upset by it all was our gatekeeper Barry Dawe, who quickly identified the snake had not paid to get in," he said.
"There seems to be something about animals - the last time we played Deniliquin, the local vet John Anstee had to leave the ground at half-time to go save a dog.
"Finley got up a lead while he was gone but then John came back and Deniliquin won."
Friday was Finley's first match against Deniliquin post-lockdowns.

Mr Haynes said it was great to have people back at country footy grounds.
"People from both sides were just happy to be there and be involved in the community again," he said.
"That was bigger than the result of who won or lost.
"The match with the tiger snake was Finley's only win for the day - maybe it was a good luck snake."
