So far in phase 1a, recipients have not been able to choose between the vaccines but AWH will now offer Pfizer to under-50s in light of rare cases of blood-clotting.
"Following advice issued by the Australian Technical Advisory Group for Immunisation (ATAGI) on Thursday, April 8, Albury Wodonga Health will be implementing an interim vaccination policy until further directions are issued by the Victorian Department of Health," chief operating officer Emma Poland said.
"We will be adopting a risk-averse approach and not offering the AstraZeneca vaccine to Phase 1(a) individuals who are under the age of 50 and receiving their first dose.
"As per ATAGI advice, those who have already received their first dose of AstraZeneca without any serious adverse effects can be given the second.
"Based on medical advice, those 50 and over can still receive the AstraZeneca vaccine with informed consent."
The Wodonga respiratory clinic, Albury Central medical clinic and Umbrella Health Wodonga are among clinics approved to deliver phase 1b.
Umbrella Health chief executive Michael Cochrane said information out of the ATAGI about the AstraZeneca jabs for adults under 50 was too new for him to comment on.
"We'll work with the PHN and the public health authorities to do the best thing we can," he said.
"The message from us is ... we've got more than enough capacity to support our community to be vaccinated."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Mr Cochrane said there had been significant interest so far at Wodonga with "one third" of calls to staff being about vaccinations.
"We have thousands of patients on the waiting list that have expressed their desire to get the vaccine as soon as they're eligible, and those inquiries come from people who are younger people who aren't high risk (of COVID-19), as well as people who are eligible now will be eligible very very soon."
