Thurgoona resident Julie Myers opens Sweet Surrender in former Geoffrey Michael Patissier premises in Albury

But on Monday Mrs Myers opened Sweet Surrender in the premises formerly occupied by the patisserie.

Presently studying patisserie at Wodonga TAFE together with her son Adam, Mrs Myers said they accelerated their plans to open a pastry shop when the Dean Street business became available this month.

Within days of looking at the shop, they made an offer which was accepted on the same day. Within a week they had already opened to the public.

"We're calling it Super Week!" she said.

"We've opened the shop, Adam and his family are moving house and it's my husband's birthday!"

Sweet Surrender will be a family-run affair with Mrs Myers and her daughter Barbara Glendenning doing the baking, Adam will be front of house while Mrs Myers' husband Barry, son-in-law Mick Glendenning and daughter Susie will be on hand to help out.

Having been encouraged by her family to enrol in the patisserie course in Wodonga, Mrs Myers said it had further ignited her passion for baking.

She will continue to study Monday and Tuesday while Adam runs the shop.

"Our customers will be part of our journey," Mrs Myers said.

"I was already baking every day and my family and neighbours always walked out of our door with food!

"Now our customers will benefit from what I'm learning each week too."

With experience in a range of businesses including hospitality, beauty and conveyancing, Mrs Myers said they moved back to the Border two years ago to be closer to their four children.

She said they would offer tarts, doughnuts and pastries while adding cupcakes and milkshakes to the mix.

"The kids will be able to watch us decorate cupcakes through the bakery window,"she said.

"We'll have cupcakes and chocolate-dipped strawberry bouquets for Mother's Day."

Sweet Surrender also offers focaccias, toasties, soup and Grinders Coffee brews.

It will open daily for now excluding Sunday.
