The Swampies didn't have numbers to field a third side to contest grade seven pennant, but a recruitment drive, led by Graham Scholz, ensured it would.
Henty went on to win grade three and seven pennant and almost had a clean sweep as its grade fives lost by a shot in the grand final.
"We went out and asked and started to badger a few people to play," Scholz said.
"It was a lot more social having three sides instead of two and a lot of people would have missed out on bowls.

"It was one of most successful seasons with Peter Forck winning the district singles as well.
"I'm not sure if we've won two pennants in the same year, but it was definitely the first time we've had three sides in grand finals.
"We play Odewahn Shield before the pennant season starts which helps a lot."
Scholz skipped a rink in the grade five decider, but North Albury came from behind to win by the barest of margins.
"We had our chances, but that's bowls," Scholz added.
