Dr Cohn was the first Greens candidate and youngest woman to be elected to the council, in 2016.
"After five years as your deputy mayor, I'll be standing down from Albury Council when my term ends in September," she said on her Facebook page.
"To me, an important part of leadership is empowering and enabling others to have their voices heard.
"There are some amazing people in our community standing up for the things we believe in - and it's their turn to have a go."
Dr Cohn said Ashley Edwards would be running as a Greens candidate for the council at the elections.
"She's a heritage professional committed to sustainable development, including cooler and greener urban spaces," she said.
