Bullioh football club a target of hoon, dead animals dumped

Six dead animals were found at the Bullioh ground on Sunday morning, with tyre marks left on the oval by a small vehicle.

The nearby golf course was also targeted by the driver.

Football club committee member Shayne Ried said he was particularly concerned that the person, or people, involved in the incident had been using firearms.

"We had our first home game on Saturday," he said.

"The ground was looking in fantastic condition.

"We went down on Sunday to do a clean up and found that a vehicle had taken to the ground to do doughnuts.

"They've also dumped some shot possums and rabbits near our clubhouse."

Police were notified of the incident, which left indents about 15 centimetres deep in the playing surface.

They inspected the damage.

Mr Reid said the main feeling with club members was of frustration.

"A lot of time and effort has gone into the ground," he said.

"To see the damage like that is frustrating.

"Of more concern is that people around our ground on a public reserve have been shooting guns and killing protected animals.

The ground has previously been targeted by hoon drivers.

Sergeant Tim Mooney said it appeared a small vehicle was used between 9.30pm on Saturday and 8am on Sunday.

"They conducted burnouts and circle work on the oval, tearing up the surface," he said.

"They also did some burnouts on the adjacent golf course.

"We'd appreciate any help from the community with information.

"The football club committee and members have put their time and effort into maintaining the ground and providing a facility for the local community.

"When something like this happens, it's certainly disheartening."

A game won't be played at the ground for a month.

Repairs will be undertaken.
