The Australian singer-songwriter said he picked up enough work to stay afloat in the year like no other for the arts and entertainment industries.
"I didn't want to sit around and whinge even though the music industry got hard hit," he said.
"It's been something a bit different and I liked the peace and quiet."
With that in mind, Mastin said he relished the return of live music in recent months.
Having performed his loud brand of rock 'n' roll at SS&A Albury many times, Mastin had something different in store for audiences when he returns on Saturday, May 8.

He will be guided by new tunes and old songs reimagined, accompanied by his four-piece band.
"One of the songs I do in the show I wrote when I was 12," Mastin said.
"When my family moved from England, I didn't have a lot of friends and I sucked at football but I had a guitar my grandfather bought me in England.
"I just started writing my own stuff."
Mastin won the third season of The X Factor Australia in 2011.
He signed with Sony Music Australia and his debut single Good Night reached number one in Australia and New Zealand.
Mastin's self-titled debut album debuted at number two on the ARIA Albums Chart and was certified double platinum. His second studio album Beautiful Nightmare (2012) included the hit singles Shut Up and Kiss Me and Shout It Out, the latter becoming Mastin's second number-one single in Australia.
The Albury show is an all-ages event, but those under 18 will need a parent or guardian with them. Doors open at 7.30pm.
