Ashley Edwards to run at top of ticket in Greens Albury Council election bid

Ms Edwards, 36, will run as number one on the Greens' ticket, followed by Albury arts technician Kofi Isaacs, health worker Jillian Pattinson, artist and business owner Susie Monte.

Outgoing deputy mayor Amanda Cohn will run in number five place, as an endorsement of the four candidates and in an unwinnable spot.

Ms Edwards is determined the Greens will continue their representation at council.

"Amanda has shown that the Greens can do an amazing job in a rural conservative area," she said.

"She's a great mentor to me.

"My message would be that she has achieved some amazing things, but there's still a lot of work to be done, and I really hope to carry on that work."

Ms Edwards grew up in Albury and as a mum-of-two, became involved in the Albury Public School P&C.

"I was an archaeologist for a long time, but I work in heritage conservation and protection now," she said.

"I'm really passionate about this town, and making it a great place to live.

"I always thought that it (running for council) might be something I'd like to do, but probably like a lot of young women, I thought that it wasn't really a place where I belonged.

"But recent events have showed us more women do belong in places where decisions are made, and I want my daughter to see that that begins at a local level."

The Albury Greens campaign was launched in Albury with Senator Mehreen Faruqi, who described Cr Cohn's achievements as the first Greens councillor in Albury as inspiring.

"Greens councillors and a lot of the community actually want Albury to be a sustainable, vibrant and inclusive city, and that's the strength I see in the team," she said.

"There's a huge diversity of talent on our team - Kofi is representing the young people in Albury and that's really important.

"We increased the numbers of Greens councillors last time and we hope to do that again."

Ms Edwards listed investment in renewables such as securing an elective vehicle fleet for council in her goals for council.

"I'm running for council because I want to see more local action on climate change, livable suburbs that are cooler and greener and a community that is diverse and inclusive," she said.

"We need better access to childcare and preschool, particularly to increase the participation of women in the workforce."
