"In so many other ways you have wonderful things going on with your life," magistrate Richard Funston told Kylin Mark Morey.
"But you have obviously got an anger management problem and a short fuse."
IN OTHER NEWS:
Morey has faced Albury Local Court over an incident at an Albury hotel where, having had several drinks, he attacked another patron.
He had become upset about the man slapping a female friend of his three times.
The last blow, police said, was delivered with considerable force.
The woman had, moments earlier, leaned over the table the group were sitting at in Beer Deluxe in the New Albury Hotel and slapped a male friend several times.
After the victim hit his female friend, Morey argued with him and warned: "If you do that again I'll punch you in the face."
When the argument became more heated, Morey picked up a half-empty can of rum and cola and threw this at his face, leaving a scratch to his nose.
Soon after, he also punched him.
Defence lawyer Mark Cronin said it was unfortunate that Morey had a history of turning violent when drinking in a social situation.
Mr Funston told Morey that such assaults had to stop.
"And if it means you have to get off the booze, then you have to get off the booze," he said.
Morey, 29, was placed on a 10-month intensive corrections order after pleading guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
