The Roos were strong underdogs against premiers Lavington, but booted eight goals to four after half-time to seal a 13.5 (83) to 9.10 (64) upset.
Vice-captain Hayden Filliponi called on the team to show more poise in attack and it delivered with Kyle Docherty shooting into second spot in the goalkickers with eight, while Filliponi snared three.
Docherty was best on ground, while Charlie Nastasi and the Wilson brothers - Damien and Cameron - were dynamic.
"The feeling in the rooms after the match was electric and our goal this year was to try and beat the teams around us, so to beat the premiers is outstanding," Roos' head of football Craig Spencer explained.

Lavington was missing five automatic selections, including three who were unavailable.
The Panthers are languishing in eighth and face runaway leaders Albury, plus Wangaratta in the coming weeks.
