The home side staged a come from behind win at Exies Oval to claim the low-scoring affair 18-13.
Penalty goals from Griffith's Emmanual Dutack proved to be the deciding factor in delivering the Blacks their first win of the Southern Inland Rugby season.
The Steamers had started their campaign off strongly after consecutive wins against Reddies and Wagga Ag College, and will be looking to rejoin the winners' list when they host Tumut at Albury's Murrayfield for round five.
