Emergency services were called to the Great Alpine Road at Bright about 9pm on Thursday.
The car hit the animal near Tempo Court.
The passenger was flown to the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne with serious injuries and the driver was taken to Wangaratta hospital.

Senior Sergeant Doug Incoll said the car was destroyed and it was lucky those in the vehicle weren't more seriously injured.
There was little that could be done to avoid he crash, but Senior Sergeant Incoll said drivers should be aware of the possibility of deer on the road.
