The original lift installed ahead of MAMA's opening only six years ago has been plagued with problems and faults despite operating only between the ground and first floors.
The $500,000 allocation is for works to be carried out in the coming financial year, but council is hopeful the problem can be rectified by replacing the lift's electronic control system at a cheaper cost of $100,000.
The company which installed the lift is no longer in operation and led to difficulties with maintenance and sourcing parts when the lift has broken.

Council draft budget notes state: "Significant amounts of both time and money have been spent to maintain this lift which it now appears is a faulty product.
"The supplier of the lift is no longer in business and the builder of MAMA has previously been in communication with (Albury Council), but is not willing to assist further for contractual reasons."
Another $105,000 has been allocated in the 2021-22 budget for the replacement of bi-fold doors at the Canvas cafe within the MAMA building.
Budget notes state: "The current doors are low quality and have been constantly problematic.
"They have been incurring high maintenance costs and impacting on the security and operations of the cafe."
Under the lease deal with the cafe operator council is responsible to fix structural problems.
A further $10,000 is going to be spent on designs to improve MAMA foyer area.
"This project aims to enhance the revenue generating capacity of the museum," budget notes state.
