It forms part of the next tranche of the fibre to the premises network boost with internet speeds of one gigabit per second allowing multiple users access to 4K streaming content and downloads of high-resolution movie files.
An estimated 17,000 homes in Wodonga, West Wodonga and East Albury households are among 900,000 Australia-wide included in the latest rollout in a major boost for those electing to work from home in the post COVID-19 era.
NBN Co has plans to have upgrades in two million homes by 2023.
"On the back of the business fibre upgrades we announced in September, this marks the start of delivering superfast speeds to most homes across Albury-Wodonga," member for Farrer Sussan Ley said.
"Importantly there is no-upfront cost to the user and is an on-demand product.
"What we're saying is, if you want faster speeds so you can work easily from home, stream video or gaming, or whatever you need, here's the opportunity.
"And like the business rollout, I expect the rest of Albury and other larger communities in Farrer to be included in the next round of suburbs announced by NBN later in the year."

Victorian Senator Jane Hume said: "The commencement of these works by NBN Co will create jobs for the Wodonga community and support local businesses by allowing them to take advantage of the benefits that ultrafast broadband can provide".
Meanwhile, member for Indi Helen Haines is hoping there will be further investment in next week's federal budget to allow NBN coverage beyond the major regional centres.
"The NBN is a critical piece of infrastructure we must get sorted," she said.
"Too often rural properties are locked out of the rollout.
"Fast and reliable internet isn't a luxury, it's an essential utility, no matter where you live."
Fibre infrastructure is being rolled out with no cost to households or businesses until the customer orders an eligible service from a service provider.
