The defender was cruelled by related knee and foot injuries between 2016 and 2018, with bone in his left knee "dying".
"I played basketball when I was a kid and the surgeon reckons there might have been some bruising from falling on the court and it never healed," he explained.
"It restricted blood flow and caused the bone to peel away.
"The surgeon hadn't seen anything this substantial, with the best scenario grafting a piece of bone in there."
However, the graft didn't 'take' and it was removed.
"The surgeon said it will be arthritic at an early age (laughs), hopefully they have some technology by then."
