The 25-year-old burst onto the Supercars scene in 2020, claiming his maiden pole position and finishing on the podium for the first time.
But his second season with the Albury-based team has yet to take off, Hazelwood having only made the top-10 in two of the first 11 races.
"You're never happy unless you're winning races," he said. "Last year we were comfortably having top-10 race pace and the clear objective for us this year was to be comfortably in the top-10 of the championship and to be contesting for podiums.
"We haven't been able to do that yet so there's work to be done. We have had top-five race pace on many occasions this year and I'd like to think it's only a matter of time until it comes together but you're only as good as your last race."
BJR have grappled with qualifying issues in the early stages of this season but Hazelwood can see better times ahead.
"We were hoping for a lot more success than we've achieved so far," he said.
"It's been a bit lean by my own standards but it's not from a lack of trying.
"Things just haven't come together yet but the potential's certainly there.
"Fingers crossed that when we go to Winton for the team's home event (May 29-30), we can really turn it on and start to turn our season around.
"We've passed a lot of cars, we've kept the car straight and we haven't had a DNF but we just haven't had the race results."
Hazelwood is 17th out of 26 drivers in the overall standings, with 511 points to his name.
