Hawks coach Adam Mudra said Winnett has decided not to play this year after rarely being sighted over the pre-season.
Winnett missed out on both the Hawks' grand final triumphs in 2011 and 2014 with injury.

A knee injury cost him in 2011 while a broke jaw sidelined the reliable defender in 2014.
Winnett also played in a losing grand final with Holbrook against Brock-Burrum under coach Jarrod Twitt in 2013.
He finally broke his grand final hoodoo in 2018 when part of the Hawks' most recent flag.
The Hawks look well poised to progress deep into September once again this year.
The league heavyweight sits fourth on the ladder with a 5-2 record and firmly in the mix for the prized double chance.
