The animal had been stuck in the small coffin shaped septic tank for hours before crews managed to get it to safety on Tuesday night.
It was dragged to safety with assistance from a specialist firefighting unit, CFA members, the SES and the Wodonga ranger.
The cow was tired and weak after the incident but otherwise unharmed.
EARLIER: Emergency service workers are trying to rescue a cow that has fallen down a septic tank.
Firefighters, the Wodonga Council ranger and SES volunteers were alerted to the incident at a property on the Kiewa Valley Highway in Baranduda about 1.45pm on Tuesday.
The animal fell into the pit and was left covered in water.
A specialist CFA rescue crew is heading to the scene.
