Two regular visitors to Victoria's High Country have criticised the area's lack of affordable housing, saying it's made the region less attractive to tourists.

Melbournians Fraser Lorkin and Joseph Moon have been holidaying in Bright and the north east Alpine region sporadically for a number of years, but on their latest visit, Mr Moon said he'd noticed many closed shops and hospitality venues.

"It's really hard for restaurants to open because they can't find staff," he said.
"It's not that [staff] don't want to live here it's just that they can't live here because the rent is too high."
Mr Lorkin said it was "ridiculous" seeing great local pubs closed because there was not enough staff.
"It just sucks," he said.
"It's killing the vibe for sure, and especially come winter it's going to be worse."
