Fire crews were called to the intersection of Little Billabong Road and the Hume Highway about 12.15pm on Wednesday.
The vehicle was fully alight when they arrived on scene, and it took an hour to extinguish the blaze.
Superintendent Pat Westwood said the cause was unknown, but the truck was empty.
The incident occurred near the Little Billabong fire brigade shed, with members called to more than 30 incidents each year.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"Unfortunately it's a part of the Hume that sees a lot of accidents with people transiting from Sydney to Melbourne," he said.
"These people are volunteers that are running farms and other businesses in the area and they've had to respond to motor vehicle accidents, persons trapped, fatalities and truck fires.
"I'd just luck to thank them publicly for their commitment to community safety and their dedication in responding to the community."
The driver was unhurt.
