A truck and trailer decoupled on the Wodonga-Yackandandah Road on August 7, 2014.
The trailer continued on the road and hit two vehicles, killing two people in one car and one in another.
Heavy Mechanics Pty Ltd is standing trial after allegedly failing to properly service the truck and trailer.
The nine female and three male jury members yesterday examined various components in the Wodonga County Court, including a tow eye shaft, castellated nut and an A-frame which had been attached to a section of the trailer.
Judge George Georgiou told the jurors the items were now nearly seven years older.
"Bear in mind you're looking at it in June 2021, it's not in fact the same as it was in August 2014," he said.
"You're looking at the unit some seven years later."
IN OTHER NEWS:
The court was told on Thursday that one component was missing from the towing system.
Detective Acting Sergeant Philip Frith said a washer, usually located between the nut and block, could not be found.
He said several attempts had been made to find it on the side of the road, including using firefighters to conduct a burn off to clear knee high grass.
SES volunteers and the police search and rescue squad examined an area where the detective believed the item was likely to be, including with metal detectors.
Judge Georgiou yesterday said there wasn't any suggestion the washer hadn't been attached at the time of the decoupling, just that it couldn't be found.
Jurors previously viewed photographs taken of the recovered components a short time after the crash.
The court has been hearing evidence this week about the servicing of the truck and trailer in the lead-up to the incident.
Judge Georgiou said no evidence would be heard yesterday as there needed to be legal arguments conducted, which would likely take a long time.
The case will return to court on Tuesday.
