National president for Rural Australians for Refugees Louise Redmond said the week was an opportunity to celebrate the skills and perspectives of refugees.
"It's a time to say 'wow, aren't we lucky to have refugees who come and contribute so much to our community'," she said.
"People who are refugees are often very entrepreneurial, very resourceful very resilient."

She said rural communities, such as Albury-Wodonga and the surrounding areas, could play an important role in making refugees feel welcome.
"Linking people into sporting groups and so they become part of the community, that's the kind of thing that our groups are particularly good at doing," she said.
