Burchell has 16 goals from 10 games for leaders Wangaratta but Albury United and Myrtleford are both within two points.
"The league has got stronger," Burchell said. "You can't underestimate anyone.
"There's some really good competition.
"Albury United are a great side and I know Myrtleford and Wang are rivals but you've got to give credit where it's due.
"They want to be successful and they've been the benchmark for so many years, playing in multiple cup finals.
"This season, the points system has evened it up and clubs are pushing.
ALSO IN SPORT:
"I'm 30 now so I'm not getting any younger.
"Coming off the back of not playing for a year, I try to keep myself ticking over.
"I guess it's just about being clinical.
"To have 16 goals at the halfway stage, I'm pretty happy with that."
