As part of Operation SAFECAR, officers are concentrating patrols in areas of concern.
They are leaving flyers in letterboxes and even door-knocking when they find obvious signs of vehicles or property not appropriately secured.
The majority of cars had been left unlocked, with offenders targeting a large number of door handles to see if the cars are open.
Cash was the main target in the thefts.
