Councillors will consider a $694,000 plan put forward for the Albury Showgrounds, which would see a camping ground created, the building of two shower and toilet blocks and conversion of the existing toilet block into a laundry.
A total of 103 camp sites would be created under the development.
Most of the sites would be relatively small, but some would be larger to cater for recreational vehicles.
The area is often used by a small number of campers, especially people in recreational vehicles.
The development would take place in the existing camping zone, which is accessed from the Mate Street entry.
The main shower and toilet blocks would be located in the south-western corner of the site, with a smaller building proposed closer to the entry from Mate Street.
The works would be carried out in two stages under the proposal.
Users have provided feedback to the council that the area lacks trees for shade and that the area needs watering.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Landscaping works have also been proposed for the site, which is on Crown land and managed by a committee.
Council staff have been keen in recent years to see the showgrounds upgraded.
"The development is considered appropriate to the context and setting of the site," a report says.
"This assessment has concluded that the proposed development provides a suitable and satisfactory planning outcome."
Some of the buildings in the precinct are protected under heritage rules, but a plan recommends obsolete structures be knocked down and replaced.
