Wodonga residents will be confined to their homes for the next five days but restrictions in regional NSW do not limit reasons for leaving the home.
"People should limit their movements ... because obviously, it's on our doorstep, and until we know it's not, we should take precautions," Cr Mack said.
"It's about getting through this next three or four days, getting the testing done and getting some confidence moving forward that it's just a blip on the radar.
"They need to wear their mask, get tested if they've been anywhere near those sites and get vaccinated."
Asked if regional NSW rules should be tightened, Cr Mack said "Until we see results, I don't think so".
"That will be up to the Premier and her health advice," he said.
"People need to be mindful at the moment that being out and about is privilege.
"This is a reminder you can't take anything for granted and we need to look after ourselves."

Cr Mack was disappointed the information about a North Albury exposure site was not sent directly to council by Murrumbidgee Local Health District.
"People are very worried and we're often their first point of contact," he said.
"I'm reading it on Facebook - the media know before we do."
