NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian gives COVID update as 110 cases recorded

Of the new cases 43 were in the community for more than a day while infectious, 17 were in the community for part of the time they were infectious and 13 are unknown.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said Tuesday was a record day for testing in the state. with nearly 84,000 tested undertaken.

She said the 43 people might not have necessarily been doing the wrong thing or moving in the community while symptomatic.

"Every time you have contact with another human being you risk getting the virus or passing the virus on, you might not even have any symptoms," she said.

Ms Berejiklian said if Greater Sydney had not gone into lockdown the daily case numbers would be in the thousands.

There are 106 cases in hospital: 32 in ICU and 11 who require a ventilator.

Last night, the NSW cabinet decided to lockdown parts of regional NSW as of midnight.

The crisis meeting locked down Orange, Blayney and Cabonne Shire in the state's Central West.

It came after a positive COVID case and five exposure sites were identified in Orange.

Deputy Premier John Barilaro said it was the first time the NSW government had acted 'fast, hard and local' to lock down parts of regional NSW.

"The decision was a decision made on behalf of the citizens in the regions

Mr Barilaro said regional areas need to focus on getting vaccination rates higher.
