Mason Richards targeted the man and his mate after they walked past him in Albury's CBD.
Magistrate Richard Funston told the 20-year-old that he was especially unsettled by the kick to the second victim's head.
IN OTHER NEWS:
"It's a very serious assault before the court," he has told the Lavington man in Albury Local Court.
Richards pleaded guilty to charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company of others and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
A backup charge of common assault was withdrawn against Richards, who was on a conditional release order when he carried out his attack.
"It's vital that you're in no trouble between now and the next court date (of September 6)," Mr Funston told Richards, on ordering a sentence assessment report.
The court heard how Mason and a friend were in Dean Street when the two victims walked past them about 12.20am.
They began to follow the men, who crossed the intersection with Olive Street.
Mason then threw the bottle at the head of one of the men.
When this victim confronted his friend, Mason punched the man seven times to the head.
The man reacted by trying to run away, but Mason grabbed hold of his shirt and pulled him back while throwing him to the ground.
He then punched him to the head another two times.
Meanwhile, Mason's mate stopped the other man from intervening. Mason then grabbed hold of the second victim, punching him and throwing him to the ground.
"The accused has kicked (the second man) with his right foot to the head before holding him down and punching him to the head about four times," police said.
The attack did not end there, with both Mason and his friend continuing to land punches on their victims.
One of the men tried to avoid the assault, as he lay on the ground, by using his hands to shield his head.
