Another two low systems are on the way during the next week.

After 105mm in Wangaratta in June, this month's total is approaching the 100mm mark, making this the town's wettest June-July period since the 259mm recorded in 1995. August and September 1995 dried out but heavy rain fell in both October and November 1995.

Perth to date has had 213mm this month on 19 days out of 21 days.

It now is approaching its record 27 wet days of July 1964 and 26 wet days in 1958 and 1947.

The last five months of 1947, 1958 and 1964 combined were very wet in Victoria with a high frequency of thunderstorms.

The trouble spot last week is directed again upon Cocos Island, which last Sunday, July 18, experienced its warmest July day on record, with a reading of 30.6 degrees.

Twice earlier this month, the previous July record was equalled and now this July is the warmest in 69 years of records. Both mean minimum and mean maximum temperatures are new records for July.

This is a catalyst for more significant rain in the Albury-Wodonga region for the rest of this year and possibly next February and March.

I am currently in Emerald, which on Friday, July 16, had one of its hottest July days on record, with a reading of 31 degrees.

This year to the end of June, Emerald has recorded only 191mm of rain. This is the driest since 2001 and the countryside looks like it.

To date, it is the warmest July at Mackay since 1947 (which was the year Perth recorded all those wet days).

Roma recorded its warmest July night in 64 years of record, when the temperature reached a maximum reading of 17.1 degrees.
