Victorian lockdown continues to wreak havoc on Albury-Wodonga Steamers

Due to the Victorian lockdown last week, the Steamers travelled to Tumut with only a first grade outfit.

They had 16 players make the trip, with the combined team of available first and second grade players going down 29-6.

However with the lockdown extended this week the club has decided not to field any grades until the lockdown has been lifted.

In an email to the board, Albury president Mick Raynes said this lockdown was having a harder impact on the club.

He admitted the club erred with the amount of pressure placed on players to play last week.

"We feel it is becoming inappropriate and unfair of the club to ask players to put the Steamers Rugby Club ahead of their workplaces, families, community and so on," Raynes wrote.

"This is a very difficult decision for our club to undertake, and we hope SIRU and the clubs can view it with a degree of empathy."

After Albury forfeited their second grade and women's game to Tumut, the Southern Inland board elected to declare the games scoreless draws.

They are drawn to face Waratahs at Conolly Rugby Complex on Saturday but with bigger implications on the ladder the board will meet again to discuss the best path forward.
