An extensive search on Wednesday and Thursday has failed to find Peter Nugent, 83.
Police plan to continue the search on Friday and may continue searching at the weekend.
EARLIER: Police continue to search for a man missing from a Bright retirement home for 24 hours.
Peter Nugent, 83, left Hawthorn Village on Rotary Drive about 9.30am on Wednesday.
The property is in the middle of the town but is only about 500 metres from bushland and a short distance from creeks.
Senior Sergeant Doug Incoll said about 40 people from various police units, the SES, firefighters and Ambulance Victoria were involved in the operation.
The police airwing is also involved.
"We ask people to check their back yards and sheds," he said.
"We need all the assistance from the public we can get.
"The search will be centred on the Morses Creek area and the whole town and clear conditions should assist."
Senior Sergeant Incoll said Mr Nugent was frail but mobile.
"As time goes on the more concerned we are for his welfare," he said.
He was wearing a blue check shirt, beige top, pyjama pants and black shoes when he was last seen.
The 83-year-old is 165 centimetres tall, has blue eyes, a medium build and short grey balding hair.
Police have concerns for his welfare due to a medical condition.
The temperature dropped to zero degrees overnight.
Anyone who sees Mr Nugent should call Triple-0.
