The Geographical Names Board of NSW has approved the new name for a section of Roper Street which now leads from Memorial Drive to the monument.
The switch has been flagged by the Albury sub-branch of the RSL with president Graham Docksey saying it was an apt time.
"We've just spent a lot of money on the refurbishment of the Albury War Memorial and I thought it was fitting we look for a name change for that part of the memorial," Mr Docksey said.
The proposal will be advertised in Saturday's Border Mail and if there are no objections the name will be able to be gazetted by Albury Council and could be in place by Remembrance Day.

The remainder of Roper Street which runs north of the memorial to Pemberton Drive would be unaffected by the alteration.
The street was named for Albury's third mayor John Roper who had that job in 1862.
