Yarrawonga-Mulwala residents will be left with just one Lake Mulwala traffic crossing with confirmation the weir bridge will shut on October 15.

Once the closure takes place, the main Yarrawonga-Mulwala traffic bridge will be the only option available to motorists.
The weir bridge was due to close last year, but was given a stay of execution when major maintenance works were required on the main bridge which is in need of replacement with the community and various levels of government divided on the route of the replacement bridge.
The announcement of the weir bridge closure was made by the Murray Darling Basin Authority on Tuesday.
"It's certainly the end of an era, as the crossing has been an important part of the region's history since the weir was opened in 1939," MDBA head of river management Andrew Reynolds said.
"However, first and foremost the weir controls the flow of water in the river and enables reliable supply to communities along the Murray as well as irrigators connected to the Yarrawonga main channel in Victoria and the Mulwala canal in NSW."
Maintenance works on the main traffic bridge including steel truss repairs and upgrades to traffic and pedestrian barriers have recently been completed.

"It will definitely put some pressure on to hurry up and make a decision about what route will be chosen," he said.
"In the short term it will put a lot more pressure on the existing bridge.
"I'm of the view it will knock the golf club around a bit.
"It is amazing how many people use the weir bridge."
Pre-COVID there were about 1500 crossings of the weir bridge made each day compared with 8200 crossings of the main bridge.
The weir bridge is still open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Yarrawonga-Mulwala will join other Murray River towns Cobram-Barooga and Echuca-Moama in only having one traffic crossing.
