In a shock announcement the AFL Riverina sent a memorandum to clubs on Monday confirming September 18 and 19 was the latest date for grand finals to be played.
Otherwise no premierships will be awarded.
The traditional four week finals has also been scrapped in favour of a condensed two-week format.
A four-team, two-week final series has been slated, with semi finals on September 4-5 and grand finals on September 11-12.
ALSO IN SPORT:
The entire Farrer League finals series will be played at Robertson Oval, and the Riverina League at Narrandera Sportsground.
The move is in stark contrast to the Hume league.
President Brendan I'Anson said last week the league is committed to playing a grand final even if it has to be pushed back to October.
Ganmain-Grong Grong-Matong president Jason Hamblin is adamant clubs would have been prepared to play deeper into the year if needed.
Hamblin had suggested the league go on a hiatus of about three weeks in order to find some clear scheduling room after lockdown.
"I don't believe the league should be putting an end date on it," he said.
"I suggested to put footy on hiatus for three weeks instead of guessing.
"If other codes are playing in October and we don't get a result, if everything gets lifted and goes back to normal, (it's not ideal)."
